ARTIST STATEMENT
I remember the first time a work of art changed my breath and captured my full attention. The beauty and technical excellence found in the micro-expressions of each brush stroke elicited a feeling of pure joy. This was when I knew I wanted to be a painter. I wanted to be an artist!
Most paintings begin with a concept inspired by a life experience, an intriguing conversation, or emotional exploration. I start with a short meditation followed by writing some loose prose to flush out those feelings and concepts that the experience has elicited.
My paintings and the titles I select reflect that kind of deep dive into an experience, one I feel is a shared vibrational experience reflective of inhabiting a human form.
I work exclusively in oils, loving their lush richness, varied transparencies and tactile essence. Once the color scheme has been mixed, base layers are applied via palette knife. Layer by layer, contrasting colors are added, and loosely blended with each other creating depth and surprising visual elements. Both the concept and the palette evolve and grown with each layer, taking on life of their own. And I know that something bigger than me is producing this.
I love to connect with others through the creation of vibrant, beautiful works of high quality art. The concept of vibration being the foundation of all things in our existence defines how I view this world we share. My approach reflects the interpretation of human nature, always nurturing, even during cycles of decay and renewal, as I discover it; or it discovers me.
Warm Regards, Teri O
